One Secret To Staying Young-Rocking That Bike!

In a new study (published in The Journal of Physiology), scientists at King's College London and the University of Birmingham in England examined the behavior and health of "fit" men and women between the ages of 55 and 79 who all cycled regularly as a part of their routines. ("Fit" meant that the men had to be able to ride at least 62 miles in 6.5 hours and the women had to achieve 37 miles in 5.5 hours).

Each of the study subjects had to go through a battery of physical and mental tests to measure endurance, muscle mass, strength, pedaling power, balance, memory function, bone density and reflexes. When compared with widely recognized benchmarks of so-called normal aging, these cyclists had some seriously vivacious results: In almost all areas, their performance was on par with benchmarks of far younger people-particularly in the areas of balance, reflexes, metabolic health and memory ability. Isn't that awesome?!
